I am experimenting with more layers recently and winter is the perfect season to do so. Layering textures is a great way to add interest in an outfit and I love combining different materials. Trying to mix and match various pieces to create a cohesive look has become a fun challenge. The beanie was a Christmas gift from my brother-in-law who brought me this (and other amazing little paper goods) from Shanghai, which I thought topped off the relatively polished look with a bit of street style edge.

3 Reasons To Love Grey Jeans

As a kid, I used to hate jeans. As in, fully loathe with all of my tiny being because of how “uncomfortable” they were. So leggings (preferably brightly colored and boldly printed) became my pant of choice for many years. But hey, it was the 90’s and when Stephanie Tanner is your style guru, it’s bound to happen. But fortunately for me (and the rest of the world), I grew to love jeans and embrace the true versatility they provide. I’ve worn black skinny jeans to work with blazers for years, jeans with heels for date nights and even sweated through many a summer in my beloved denim. So safe to say, any new type of denim is always welcome in my world.

As a grey obsessed gal, naturally a pair of grey jeans would find it’s way into my wardrobe (this Paige pair is my favorite). But not everyone loves colored denim, so I thought I would make a case for why you need to try a pair 🙂

1 . Grey jeans are a great neutral. You always need an easy, low maintenance neutral piece to help pull your whole look together. Grey jeans are the perfect complement to a variety of prints, solid jewel tones or any type of shoe you throw on.

2 . Grey jeans complement other colors & help them pop. Like black, grey can be paired with almost any other color and help heighten it’s vibrancy. Even pastels would benefit from being worn with grey without trying to compete for the eye’s attention.

3 . Grey jeans are a nice break from traditional blue washes. If you are a denim lover and are looking to expand your collection, grey is a low-key addition to any wardrobe. Black jeans take the cake in the sleek department, but they are hard to beat when you are looking for an alternative to blue.

I am always on the hunt for a great, versatile skirt with a balance of polish and edge. (And that is an appropriate length. My college days of wearing too short minis are long gone!) So when I stumbled upon this chic little number (linked below) from H&M, let’s just say that puppy was in my shopping cart within seconds. I styled the pleated skirt with an off-the-shoulder top &  ankle boots, then played proportions by pairing it with an oversized sweater (Achro) & heels (Zara). My closet needed a midi skirt that I could wear long into the next few seasons. And yes, that includes the summer because black is a year round staple for me.

Fresh Start: 2017 Staples

Picture with Font

With every new year comes the sense of a fresh start. This can encompass a variety of resolutions such working out more, eating healthier, getting organized, etc. I love to extend this same feeling toward my closet. The first week of the year, I picked through my all of my clothing and came up with a decent amount to send to the DAV. Part of my “clothing resolution” is to get rid of the items I don’t wear and replace them with more staples to fill in wardrobe holes. I am still trying to build a solid closet with chic staples and occasionally throwing in a few trendy pieces here & there. So as I am brainstorming my missing staple pieces with a 2017 spin, I thought I would share!

1 . Straight Leg Jeans

Everyone has at least one pair of skinny jeans in their denim collection. A pair of straight leg, relaxed fit is yet another “must-have” because of it’s versatile and sense of ease.

2 . Clean White Shirt (with a Twist)

MANDARIN COLLAR SHIRT

A clean, crisp white shirt is a definite must, but sometimes adding a staple to your closet that is basic with a twist can become a go-to item. I picked up one of these at Zara and loved it because of the slightly oversized style and slits up the side.

3 . Minimal Classic Mini Bag

Every so often you want to ditch your heavy, everyday purse (mine is usually pretty full of who know’s what!) for a sleek, mini bag that is perfect for a night out. Throw your wallet and phone in and you are good to go!

4 . Statement Jacket

A great coat is a must for a fashionista and most of us have a variety of outwear staples such a modern pea coat. But sometimes you need a piece to top off your outfit in the colder months when you feel like making a statement.

5 . Loafers

The Modern Loafer - Everlane

As we get into the spring season, we can finally give our boots a break and let our ankles breath. I am on the hunt for a pair of fabulous loafers and since the Gucci’s mules were all the rage this last fall, I am sure we will be seeing more to come because these classics never really go out of style!

I’ve come to the conclusion that I may just hide out in a oversized sweater until it warms up. What’s not to love about thick, mohair yumminess acccented by a bit of texture? I can’t seem to get enough of it’s easiness and the classic, yet sleek style. (Plus it’s on sale for $29.99 & I ordered a medium for extra slouchiness). For that price point and considering my obsession with this, I may need to get a second one in the light grey!

The search for the perfect faux leather jacket is over! After looking high and low for the perfect jacket with a great fit, I finally found this buttery number from Nordstrom. It’s on sale right now and you can snag it for $59.90! You can throw this on over a dress or with jeans and a chic scarf. Though I am a petite gal (ordered an XS), it fits perfect so I can wear it over a sweater without it feeling too snug, yet it hugs me in all the right places. If particular style isn’t your cup of tea, below are some other moto jackets I have my eye on.

Comfort is important to me when it comes to fashion and my happiest self can usually be found wearing an oversized sweater and a v-neck tee. So I decided to showcase this combo and am loving the clean, yet layered look. The all white make the grey pop and you can never go wrong with a simple, classic tee.

Layering is one of my favorite aspects of dressing for the colder months. You can mix textures and fabrics to create interesting, impactful looks. Even though I tend to live in the black, white and neutral realm, there are endless possibilities with great layering pieces like this one from ASOS. I love the long length can peek out under sweaters and jackets. The sheer material adds a lightness to the faux leather leggings and I can’t get enough of this hard vs. soft look.

When I think of a classic look, it usually involves the color black. It is so chic, elegant and can elevate any look. Though I am no stranger to wearing black all year round, I am trying to push myself beyond dresses for formal events and have turned to jumpsuits as a new alternative. I have been loving this comfortable, effortless one from BCBGeneration for months now and it is a staple that I will get a lot of wear out of. Keeping the accessories simple help the minimal pieces make a statement and I love the boldness of the overall silhouette.

I love a good monochromatic look as it adds a layer of interest and in my opinion, is far from boring. Layering up similar shades brings about extra dimension and texture. Sticking with the casual vibe, I am obsessed with these sneakers and love to incorporate them into all types of outfits. Luckily, the weather was a bit warm so I fully took advantage of ditching my outerwear and opted for a rare leg baring outfit. You have to make the most of nice days when Mother Nature throws you a curveball 🙂

Hope you all are looking forward to 2017 and wishing everyone a safe, happy New Year!!
