Sweater season is upon us and I couldn’t be happier. As much as I love rompers and tanks, there’s something so easy about pulling on a chunky sweater over a soft tee. They are so cozy and are a staple in my go-to fall/winter outfit: sweater, jeans, boots. To me, it’s a minimal, classic look that always makes me feel put together.

I am sharing some of the sweaters that I have my eye on below while keeping within my neutral palette to pair with black/blue jeans.

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve been back in the Midwest since visiting LA. I loved eating at amazing restaurants (Jon & Vinny’s was the fabulous!), checking out hip rooftop bars and getting my fill of green juices & acai bowls was icing on the cake. If I could put a juice spot on every corner here in Kansas, I would be in heaven.

I picked up this amazing navy shirt at Zara (similar here) and wore it nonstop during our trip. It is versatile and I am obsessed the way it drapes. It is over-sized, but with the deep v-neck I feel the extra material doesn’t swallow me up. I added a scarf for an extra boost to the overall look. Neutrals are calling my name recently and I am doing my best to work them into my wardrobe. They make me feel clean and minimal, which in turn make me feel sleek and put together. It’s funny how wearing what makes you feel confident helps you feel like you can take on the world 🙂

We recently visited Ojai in Southern California for a weekend getaway (while staying in LA). It was so beautiful and had such a relaxing, zen energy about it. This setting was perfect for a great boho look that reflected the romantic resort. I shopped around for an easy, detailed white dress that would not draw the attention away from the overall amazing backdrop. I love being able to Google destinations ahead of time to know what to pack! There nothing worse than showing up with a suitcase full of clothes that are completely out of place for the weather, resort or city. A girl’s gotta be prepared, right?

I am love with this Free People from Nordstrom dress (similar one here) with the long flowy sleeves and small cut outs. The low neckline & open back adds a bit of sexiness without going overboard. The button details provides an interesting element and I think I accidentally missed a button in front! We were rushing to get these pictures taken before sunset so my husband & I were having a hard time with the tiny buttons & proved difficult to do in a hurry. Since I wanted the dress and the incredible scenery to be the focus, I kept my accessories to a minimum with soft beach waves & neutral sandals.

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa as a side trip while visiting LA. It was such an amazing resort with beautiful grounds surrounded by breathtaking views. Walking around instantly diminished any stress & had such a calming energy about it. Not to mention great food and wonderful staff. Overall, it was a perfect weekend getaway!

I had been saving this ASOS maxi striped dress for this location because I thought it would fit in with the romantic backdrop. This flirty number was perfect for the relaxing, serene atmosphere within the resort and reflected the boho feel of this Californian oasis. Minimal accessories, beachy waves & a neutral sandal was perfect way to top this look off.

Fall is upon us and that means outerwear gets it’s time in the spotlight. Light weight jackets are perfect to add dimension & texture to your outfit. I love this pink H&M trench coat that is a few years old, but still a classic that it never really goes out of style. Pairing the pastel & whites with dark pops of color fits right in with the transition of seasons. I was excited to compile my first ever “Top 5 List” & hope that you find these helpful!

Below are my Top 5 Jacket Picks for Fall 2016:

1 . Oversized Drape Jacket – This style of jacket is ideal for fall as it is easy to throw on over jeans, dress or shorts on a cool evening. It’s casual and one of the best transitional pieces due to the light weight fabric.

Lulu’s – $62 (Comes in multiple colors)

2 . Trench Coat – A classic piece that should in any stylish gal’s closet! This type of jacket comes in many colors & variations and can be worn with just about any style of shoe or accessory. Such a great choice if you are searching for an instant facelift for your outfit.

Revolve BB Dakota – $92

3 . Suede Moto Jacket – If you are wanting an edgier piece with a 70’s flare, look no further than the suede moto jacket. Buttery soft suede will add a bit of texture and coolness to any outfit. This is a great opportunity to add a neutral or jewel tone piece to your collection. I wear my tan moto jacket constantly & was worth the investment!

Nordstrom BlankNYC – $188 (Comes in multiple colors)

4 . Faux Leather Jacket – Another classic staple that adds a hard edge to any outfit. Such a versatile piece that gives everyone that stylish rocker look. Throwing this on over a dress or with jeans & sneakers is a quick way to be the chicest one on the block. I purchased the jacket below and love the slim fit without being too tight throughout the arms.

5 . Bomber Jacket – This is one of the hottest jackets of the season! They come in every color & material, while being quilted or embroidered. Streetwear is becoming a large part of fashion and I love that you can rock sneakers, a baseball cap & bomber all while looking like a trendsetter. A very comfortable option to pair with jeans & a plain tee.

I love that sneakers have found their way into fashion & street style. And are no longer limited to just gym clothes or yoga pants! Don’t get me wrong, you will catch me from time to time running around in my leggings & Nike pullover. But you can also wear sneakers with an elevated look while maintaining a casual, effortless look. This bomber jacket from ASOS helps make this relatively simple outfit look a bit more interesting.

Here are a few tips to help pull together a sneaker friendly outfit (without looking like you’re hitting the gym):

  1. Keep workout clothes out of it. Try jeans, pants, a long skirt or even a dress as opposed to yoga pants or leggings. Just push yourself and try something different that fits your level of comfort and style. I prefer my black skinny jeans because they give the same slimming effect as leggings & works well with my Nikes.
  2. Throw on a top layer. Whether this be a coat, leather jacket, vest or bomber (like the one above), this will add dimension to your look. Even if you have on a plain tee or tank, an extra layer helps spice up an outfit without over doing it.
  3. Less is more. Overall, keep it simple. Clean lines, solid colors and simple accessories will help cultivate a pulled together, chic look.

I’m not sure if I will be able to give up my white jeans by Labor Day…but I am so glad that white has become more expectable all year round. White pants really help the rest of an outfit pop and this one is no exception. Being a sucker for all things grey, I paired this simple grey tee with my new Zara wedges. These will be my fall alternatives for an ankle boot and will go with a number of outfits in my closet!

As much as I love the hot weather and sunny days by the pool, I am looking forward to a change of seasons. Fall gives you the chance to play with different textures & outfits can have more dimension. I bought this jacket last year from Ann Taylor Loft (similar one here) and love this military green color. It always works well with a variety of colors and acts as a great neutral. The slightly oversize fit pairs nicely with short dresses and shorts while adding extra depth to a look.

The days are getting shorter and we are trying to squeeze every ounce of sunlight out of them! Nightly family walks are a must for us and now we are having to get out the door earlier each week it seems. However, I am looking forward to the brisk air and the smell of neighbors grilling out for Sunday football games. Are you ready for fall? 🙂

I apologize about my lack of posts this week. We hosted a baby shower for my cousin on Saturday & it took a few days to prep my house, food & décor for the festivities. It was so special to help celebrate another precious member of our family. Brooklyn, we are excited to meet you in October!

I love to be comfortable and most days you can find me wearing sneakers. I am currently obsessed with these Stan Smith Adidas shoes. They are simple, sleek and so versatile. This post I am keeping it casual with a grey, oversized sweater with white shorts. I can’t wait to pair this with a number of outfits and wear these all fall/winter long.

I am notorious among my friends & family as a jewelry junkie. It’s always been a passion of mine & managed to turn my love of jewelry into a working reality. I landed a job as an accessory buyer in NYC. Talk about a fun experience! Looking for the latest trends in showrooms & at trade shows was a dream come true. But all good things come to an end and my umm…let’s just say interesting… boss coupled with the need for a larger pay check forced me to move on to another aspect of the jewelry industry – manufacturing. During this position, I got to visit casting houses in the diamond district, watched liquid gold being poured at our in-house factory & learn how jewelry gets made, sorted & shipped. My daily tasks were much more boring, but those were some of the cool things I got to witness while working there. So even though my style & tastes have changed a lot over the years, my love of jewelry has never wavered.

Lately, I have been gravitating towards delicate jewelry pieces. Small charms & thin chains draw me in and I can’t seem to get enough of them. If I love a piece enough, I will buy them in multiple metals to double my layering options. My husband thinks I have a problem 🙂

Even though simple jewelry is my jam, I really enjoying layering several pieces for a unique look. I don’t mind mixing metals, but usually I stick to either the majority gold or silver when stacking necklaces. In this post, I am wearing Lulu’s small black rhinestone choker, the Stella & Dot Aurora necklace (it’s reversible!) and the Stella & Dot Luna pendant necklace. I really like to keep the largest pendant/charm on the bottom layer and the necklaces decrease in size as you move up the neck. Space between the charms help the individual piece stand out as well.

Happy Layering!
